Ready for another behind-the-scenes look at how a project transforms and comes to life? Today I’m sharing a residence I worked on in the beautiful Memorial area of Houston, TX. The great homeowners had recently purchased this awesomel new home, and gave me a call because their living room, breakfast room, and dining room were going to be a blank slate once they moved in. They were at the point of overwhelm….having no idea where to start and what to focus on.Read More
I do realize there is a strong chance that the title of this blog post peaked your curiosity with a strong undertone of HORROR. You burned your Burgundy drapes from the 90’s! You sold every red Kirkland’s accessory you owned so long ago! You swore off the shade of red and vowed to never return!
When I meet with new clients and we are discussing their style, I always ask “what colors would you love to see in your new space” and conversely “what colors would you not like to see?” Nine out of 10 times, the client says “well of course I don’t want any red.” And I do understand - in the past decade we have been bombarded with mostly neutrals, and grays, and cool tones - with not a speck of red in sight.
The trend I’m expecting to grow in 2019 is not a true candy apple red, necessarily. I do believe that WARMER colors will be making a strong showing this year - warm whites, warm grays and taupes, and yes, warm neutral tones with RED undertones. I’m talking terracotta! Let’s take a look.Read More
Ok let’s start of with 2 disclosures:
Yes, I am asked A LOT: “Oh, you’re a designer - do you watch the HGTV shows?” And I can’t exactly put my finger on why, but I don’t really love HGTV. I think the shows can be a bit cheesy and unrealistic.
One of my 2019 Goals (not “resolutions”….but “goals” :) was to limit my television consumption to 1 hour per day. Most weekdays, I watch about 30 minutes of TV, but on the weekends - oh the binge watching is on!
So I’ve put together a list of a few interior design related shows that I have watched and enjoyed recently.Read More
Mixing metals throughout your home (specifically in kitchens and baths) is not a new concept in 2019, but I still meet with clients all the time that love the mixed metal look, but are afraid to pull it off in their own homes.
I think a lot of us are still scarred from the bright yellow brass of the 80’s and 90’s - those were some hard design times. So, for many years, designers and homeowners stuck with 1 singular finish and called it a day: “My Entire Home will have Chrome Fixtures.” The End. There is nothing wrong with having a single finish throughout, but I think I can convince you through the photos below, that mixing metal finishes adds a layer of depth, warmth, and charm to your interior. Let’s take a look.Read More

I have a fun story to share with you all this week - another before and after! I completed this furnishings project earlier this year, and it is one of my favorites to date. These clients are young and fashionable, and wanted a family room to really tie together their BEAUTIFUL newly purchased home in the Houston Heights. Keep in mind as you scroll through these photos - we did absolutely nothing to the existing shell of the room! Paint color stayed the same, and no changes to the millwork or built-ins. We did however, change the decorative lighting and added woven wood shades to all of the windows. It just goes to show that new furnishings can absolutely transform a room!Read More
For the sake of "keeping it real" - the blog image for today's post is the best representation of our house renovation for the past few weeks. Stacks of drywall, dust, and debris - not very glamorous, but all very necessary. It's easy to get a little impatient during this phase of a renovation - none of the progress is pretty or fun to look at, but it is all sooo important.Read More

Thank goodness I've committed to documenting the design process of this home renovation here on the blog - because oh-my-word the blog "deadlines" are forcing me to kick it into design overdrive! If you've ever lived through any kind of renovation, big or small, you know that there are about 17,000 small decisions that must be made. I'm trying to stay ahead of that decision overwhelm phase, and have all of my design ducks in a row, by the time my contractor is ready to implement. But wow, it's a lot.Read More

I apologize for the radio silence on my end, but a major development has been taking place, and I could not be more excited to share it with you!
Earlier this month, my husband Richard and I closed on a "new" home! And not just any home - this house was flooding during the reservoir release after Hurricane Harvey. The house was completely gutted by the previous owners, after taking on 14+ inches of water.Read More
Have you ever seen the TV show Million Dollar Decorator? It was on Bravo a few years ago, and it was a RIOT. It followed several celebrity designers in California, and showcased their lifestyle, process, and challenges of working on HIGH dollar projects, often with celebrity clients. All of the interior designers were extremely well-dressed, fancy, polished, and said the word “darling” in their everyday conversations. Darling! Their project budgets were sky high, and they could literally buy anything for a project with no second thought to the price tag. It was so over the top, and I absolutely loved watching such an outlandish and entertaining show.Read More
